Ghent: New Islamic University

In Ghent, 30 students began this year their studies in Islam in the Islamitische Universiteit Gent (Islamic University Ghent). The university is not recognized or subsidized.

The institution, which has started off in the Netherlands, began last year with lessons in Arabic. This year they will be extending their offerings in Islamic Studies. The lessons will be given in both Arabic and Dutch.

The Ghent "rector", Abdullah Demircrioglu, expects that a 4-year diploma in Islamic Studies could give a student a job as Islam teacher or imam.
